On the morning of August 19, the doors at 7901 Research Forest Drive opened at 7 a.m. after an hour of free coffee and bakery samples handed out starting at 6. La Madeleine, the French-inspired café chain, had picked its spot in The Plazas at Alden Bridge, and by the time the official ribbon moment came, the parking lot smelled like croissants instead of the usual Kroger rotisserie chicken.
It's a good addition, and geographically it sits within the commercial run, 7800 to 8150 Research Forest Drive, which also includes Kroger, Chick-fil-A, Walgreens, and many of the village's daily errands. La Madeleine adds another dining option to this part of Alden Bridge.
Alden Bridge is one of the largest villages in The Woodlands, home to roughly 18,000 residents across 7,000 homes. Its two retail centers sit on opposite sides of FM 1488 and offer different mixes of businesses. Residents' daily routines can vary depending on which center is closer to home.
The Research Forest Village Center's Business Mix
Alden Bridge Village Center, the Regency-owned strip at 7800 to 8150 Research Forest Drive, is one of the village's two retail centers. Kroger anchors it. Chick-fil-A and Crust Pizza Co. handle the quick dinners. El Chaparro Mexican Bar & Grill, a family-owned concept with sister locations in Tomball and Spring, has held its spot in Suite 200 for years. Pure Green, a locally owned juice and smoothie shop run by Lisa and Rick De Armas, opened in Suite 155 in March 2024 and is a stop around school pickup time. Learning Express Toys and Gifts covers birthday shopping. Walgreens covers everything else.
La Madeleine adds an all-day café with breakfast, lunch, and dinner hours, an option this side did not previously have. The Research Forest stretch already had several businesses serving residents' daily needs, and it remains a busy part of Alden Bridge. The café adds another place to eat on this side of FM 1488.
Windvale Village Center's Business Mix
Cross FM 1488 and the retail logic changes completely. The Windvale Village Center holds Golden Chopsticks, Shogun Japanese Grill and Sushi Bar, and Herrera's Mexican Kitchen and Bar, along with Anytime Fitness, an Allstate office, a Regions Bank branch, and a Tide Dry Cleaners. It's a real commercial center. It's just built around a different rhythm.

Windvale does not have a grocery anchor of its own. Residents near Windvale can cross FM 1488 to reach Kroger, while those near the Research Forest center have grocery shopping, a pharmacy, and quick-service options nearby. The two centers offer different conveniences, and La Madeleine adds another café option on the Research Forest side.
Alden Bridge's Parks and History
The parks offer amenities for residents across the village. Lakeside Park, at 5001 Alden Bridge Drive, holds a bridge over its reservoir. It's also where the neighborhood's spring festival happens most years. A few miles over, Alden Bridge Sports Park spans more than 41 acres of grass and turf fields, one of the larger sports complexes anywhere in The Woodlands, plus a public pool and a fishing spot that draws families from both sides of FM 1488 without anyone thinking twice about which shopping center they passed to get there.
The village itself dates to 1995, named for a small town in Louisiana where former Woodlands Development Co. president Roger Galatas grew up, and it predates Sterling Ridge, Creekside Park, College Park, and Carlton Woods. That history is easy to forget on a Tuesday grocery run. It's harder to forget once a year, when the whole village shows up in one place at the same time.
One Saturday a Year, the Whole Village Shows Up
The Alden Bridge Village Association has run an annual Fall Festival at Lakeside Park for over a decade, and the pattern is consistent even if the exact date moves a little each year. It landed on November 1 in 2025, November 2 in 2024, November 4 in 2023, and November 5 in 2022, which puts it reliably on a Saturday in the first week of November. Chick-fil-A, Kroger, and H-E-B have sponsored it in recent years, supplying food and snacks alongside a DJ, bounce houses, a rock wall, carnival games, a photo booth, and visits from The Woodlands Fire Department and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, K-9 unit included. It's free, it's open to the community, and it regularly draws more than 1,000 people, according to organizers. In its 2024 coverage, Hello Woodlands quoted ABVA President Maryann Braid describing the festival as "a great day in Alden Bridge." The festival remains a longstanding fixture on the village calendar.
Together, the two centers offer groceries, dining, and other everyday services. The festival gives residents from both sides of the road an annual opportunity to gather.
What the Bakery Actually Changes
For residents on the Research Forest side, the opening adds a convenient option near home. Residents on that side now have another option for a meal without driving to Market Street. Windvale Village Center has a different mix of businesses, including sit-down restaurants, banking, dry cleaning, and fitness. The two centers offer different options to residents across the village.
